Citizen Kurt’s Dirty Dozen: Robin Roth
I first met Robin about eight years ago at a salon that I worked in. One of my girlfriends there did her hair and I was always checking out Robin’s man (now, her husband!) I’ve met her a couple more times since then via my best girlfriend Cheri over at Air Conditioned Lounge. If you could ever apply the rule don’t judge a book by its cover, Robin is the perfect example for that rule. Her Goth lifestyle and appearance says nothing about her sweet personality.
Robin’s career includes being an on-air DJ at San Diego radio stations 92.5FM, 91X and Rock 105.3. She also programs and hosts The 11th Hour, a weekly Goth/Industrial internet show on Legit Radio.
Robin is the resident promoter and DJ at San Diego’s Goth/Industrial clubs Ascension at the Kava Lounge and Dominion at Satin Lounge. She is also a resident DJ at Club Sabbat at The Flame and promoter/DJ at Club Pussy Galore at the Whistle Stop and Shaken Not Stirred at AC Lounge, where she spins music ranging from Electro and Indie to 80’s.
When Robin isn’t DJing, she spends a lot of her time with the Gothic Volunteer Alliance, a San Diego-based organization involved in beach and neighborhood cleanups, charity fundraisers and a host of other events aimed at changing the negative perceptions of alternative subcultures. As a council member of the organization, she maintains the day-to-day operation of the group.
Robin has her own home recording studio where she does freelance voice-over work. She also manages San Diego’s only Dark Cabaret band, The Tragic Tantrum.

1.) Whats the most embarrasing situation you’ve ever been in? Most embarrassing and gross…sitting in someone else’s pee at a restaurant. Yes, disgusting and embarrassing. I know, hard to believe. Got seated at the table and sat down in the chair. It was warm and wet. Needless to say, I temporarily lost my mind, screamed my lungs out, grabbed a bunch of napkins and ran out of there. Thank goodness I lived close by. I haven’t been back to that restaurant since. Thank goodness I wasn’t on a date at the time. That would have been even worse.
2.) If you could banish a single person to a deserted island for life, who would it be and why? Pat Robertson. His latest…he said the devastating earthquake in Haiti is “God’s wrath for a pact Haitians made with the devil to gain independence from the French.”
3.) What’s your favorite movie of all time? It’s hard to choose just one. I’m a sucker for vampire/horror/zombie/sci-fi flicks. I also love musicals. This one is in my top 10 list…The Wizard Of Oz. I can watch it over and over again and always see something I missed before.
4.) If you could spend the day at Disneyland with 3 people living or dead, who would you pick? Walt Disney. It would be an insider’s look that would be amazing. Jim Morrison…Can you say wild ride? And yep, Michael Jackson…I would make him wear a black glove.
5.) Whats your favorite word? Lets eat. Oh wait, that’s two words. But if you say them really fast it could be one.
6.) If you could trade lives with anyone for 1 week who would it be and why. The Dalai Lama. It would be amazing to experience that kind of inner peace.
7.) What is your best attribute/characteristic? My big…blue eyes. If we’re talking personality then my drive and ambition.
8.) What prominent GLBT personality do you admire? Ellen DeGeneres. The Ellen DeGeneres Show and her humanitarian efforts have raised more than $50 million and brought attention to so many causes, including breast cancer awareness, animals and global warming. Her show raised more than $10 million to improve the lives of those living in her hometown of New Orleans.
9.) What is your “must see” TV? Lost, True Blood, Dexter, Weeds
10.) If you could recommend one book for people to read, what would it be? RTFM (Read The Fucking Manual)
11.) If you could pick any profession other than your own, what would it be? Having a traveling show on the Food Network. It would combine three things I love…eating, going to fun places and being a ham.
