Game Day Pub Crawl, Citizen Kurt-style
Alright, I’m sure some of you are surprised that I even care about a football game. Well you’re right. I don’t know the first thing about football. But, what I do like is guys that watch football. Catch my drift?
Last weekend, I had to start my Sunday out right and have a nice healthy meal in the morning because I figured I wouldn’t be eating anything the rest of the day. So after church at MCC, my friend Dan and I headed over to Baja Betty’s for brunch. It seems like lots of other Charger fans had the same idea because there were lots of good looking men there wearing jerseys in support of the big game. They have a great brunch with both Mexican and American food and bottomless (yes you heard me right) Mimosas for $18.95. Of course, I was only there to eat, but when alcohol is included, you can’t really turn it down. So, five mimosas later, Dan dropped me off and my friends picked me up – we headed out to watch the big game.
BUT WAIT! Our friend Eric was at Lei Lounge so we had to stop there first. I’ve never been a huge fan of Lei Lounge and this visit confirmed it. One of my friends, Heidi, ordered a cup of coffee that took about 15 minutes to get. We tried ordering something else and the bartender kept telling us “no no no its coming…” Yeah, but when? There seems to be a lot of attitude from Lei Lounge’s staff in general. I don’t care how good the mac ‘n cheese is, when it’s served up by a waiter wearing sunglasses on a cloudy day, you may as well be serving me a plate of styrofoam. Needless to say, we only stayed for one drink and quickly hightailed it out of there.
My good friend Courtney Ray is a die-hard sports fan and I love spending time with her. So, I decided to surprise her by going to Fiesta Cantina for the game. I also ran into a good friend Leanna, and her friend Michelle.
Fiesta Cantina was PACKED. I can see why. They have some CHEAP drink specials and some good deals on snacks. The hangover Burrito is $1.95 on Saturday and Sunday. And, I really like their wings because they aren’t too spicy and you get 20 for $12. They have mini pitchers of Sweet Tea Vodka & Lemonade for $9.95 but I went with the bottomless Mimosa for $9.95 (only til 3PM.) As I said, they were packed. However, there were several servers working and we didn’t have great luck with ours. After the fourth time we asked for our first drink order, she didn’t come around to us all that often. I guess we should have known when we first arrived she was already complaining of how tired she was…not a good thing for a waitperson to tell you.
Of course being so close to Urban Mo’s, Cheri and I had to venture over to see what was goin on and look for my friend Brian Bond. Mo’s was packed as usual. Their brunch crowd was gone but there didnt seem to be a whole lot of interest in the game that day. They had it playing both inside and out, but people were there to drink. We went in to see my friend Neil at the bar and, as usual, he recommended something new and tasty to that I had never tried. Don’t ask me what it was because I dont remember. Urban Mo’s is the place to be for a guaranteed good time any day of the week.
We wandered back over to Fiesta for the disappointing end of the game (#chargersfail.) As I sat down in my seat, the cute guy next to me said, “hey you’re my facebook friend.” I realized I had been hearing that A LOT lately. It was Benjamin Murrell of the Hard Rock Hotel. It was my first time meeting Benjamin but he’s oh so cute and lots of fun. I see us hanging out and having fun again in the near future.
As I said, I dont know much about sports and by the end of the game I had to ask if we won, I thought there was going to be a half time show or something too. I kept waiting for Britney Spears or Keisha to pop up. I guess I made those pom poms for nothing.
Good luck next season Chargers…where ever you end up.

heh heh heh……Sounds like you had a lot of fun. Thanks for your opinion on Lei Lounge. I definitely will have to check out the Fiesta Cantina.
Thanks Kurt!
