People, Opinions & Politics: Pride ‘Spin’ and Political Seats
Paid Pride PR Machine is “Spinning”
“Since the Town Hall meeting, we’ve been receiving a lot of positive response from volunteers offering their time and services for this summer’s event and other pre-events that are on the schedule,” stated the PAID public relations man for San Diego Pride to the media. He further stated that Pride is “taking the community’s concerns seriously and aspires to expand the board with gender parity and diversity.”
Pride is paying a public relations consultant to spin lies and cover up the anger, boycotts, demonstrations and withdrawal of support from the GLBT community…all the while, trying to hold on to power. The GLBT community will not rest until the infamous three Pridegate board members are gone.
It’s time our elected public officials who are a part of the GLBT community take a stand and speak out – the three Pridegate board members MUST GO! The newly added Pride board members should consider themselves an “interim board” and the Asian, African American and Latino GLBT communities need to be represented, as well as the transgender, youth, volunteers, etc. The new Pride board members must implement the community proposals offered by the volunteers and the past board members immediately.
San Diego Pride, like all other non-profit organizations, must tighten up their purse strings, not loosen them with staff additions, bonuses and more paid staff/board expenses. San Diego Pride must become more affordable to ALL and be returned back to the community.
Filner to run for Mayor?
Popular Congressman Bob Filner (Chair of the Veterans Committee) seriously considered running to become the 33rd Mayor of San Diego. In fact, I attended a meeting of San Diego civic leaders to urge Filner to run. He decided not to and Dick Murphy was elected Mayor (I supported Ron Roberts.)
Democrats may have their candidate in 2012 as word is that Filner is seriously considering a run for the 35th Mayor of San Diego. The GLBT community would face a most interesting and difficult decision in 2012 if Filner does run – support a long-time friend and ally since the 1970’s or the possible mayoral bids of Bonnie Dumanis or Carl DeMaio, both members of our GLBT community.
90% sure Donna Frye will run for Supervisor
Recently, I had a conversation with a very close political ally of Councilwoman Donna Frye and she told me that she was 90 percent sure Donna would enter the race for County Supervisor (4th District) close to the filing deadline. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party of San Diego and even the new California State Assembly Speaker John Perez have endorsed Lori Saldana.
But, early polling shows that Frye would give incumbent Ron Roberts a serious run for his money. I would not count Roberts out though – he’s in it to win it!
