Wall separates Todd Gloria and five bullets

An interesting sidebar to the recent tragic murder-suicide in City Heights last week is that only a condo wall separated District 3 City Councilmember Todd Gloria from five bullets and two dead bodies. Yes, Councilmember Gloria is the next door neighbor of murder victim Eric Schulthise. Word is that Gloria heard the gun shots early in the morning and was one of the neighbors who called the police.

Stuart Milk visits San Diego

The openly gay nephew of Harvey Milk was in San Diego this past weekend to give a keynote address at a national educators conference. Stuart Milk, president of the Harvey Milk Foundation, spent Saturday evening at Martinis Above Fourth as the featured guest for an invitation only dinner event. Among those in attendance at the dinner were: former San Diego Deputy Mayor Toni Atkins, San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, City Councilmember Todd Gloria, San Diego City Commissioners Stampp Corbin, Robert Gleason and Bruce Abrams, member of the city’s Marijuana Task Force Stephen Whitburn, Rabbi Laurie Coskey, past Center board chair Brian Bazinet, San Diego Democratic Club board chair Larry Baza, local personality Big Mike Phillips and HRC board member Linda Perine.

The private dinner party lasted about three hours and I had a blast as did everyone in attendance. We talked politics, civil rights and equality.

Stuart Milk has become a respected leader around the globe and his foundation is planning major events for Harvey Milk’s upcoming birthday, May 22.
