January output

Luzales-Tikhvin produced 18,000 furniture items in January 2025, an 88% year-on-year increase, its press service told Vedomosti Northwest on 2 April. The Tikhvin factory's 2024 output was 103,600 items. The company described automation and robotics as part of its medium-term cost-reduction programme.

The completed acquisition

In its report of 24 March 2023, Interfax recorded Luzales' completed acquisition of the Tikhvin and Vyatka factories from IKEA in Russia. The buyer did not disclose financial terms or other transaction conditions. IKEA's manufacturing assets had been offered for sale from June 2022, and due diligence was completed in November. Luzales' press service confirmed that the transaction had closed. Board chairman Ruslan Semenyuk described restoring production, preserving jobs and protecting employees' labour rights as the objectives of taking over these manufacturing businesses in the Leningrad and Kirov regions.

Workforce intentions before completion

A separate Interfax report dated 16 February 2023 set out the company's intentions while the purchases were still being prepared. Semenyuk said Luzales was planning recruitment rather than staff reductions and wanted employees to return to work after the factories' period of inactivity. Reaching full production capacity was the stated objective. He said the company had previously worked with the Vyatka operation and understood the similar technology used at Tikhvin. The report also recorded government approval on 15 February for the sale of the factories, which the industry ministry confirmed to the agency.

Production resumed in June 2023

On 2 June 2023, Interfax reported an actual restart at Luzales-Tikhvin, citing the owner's press service. The factory began making solid-pine kitchen worktops, with the first batch intended for kitchen sets in a residential building the company was constructing in Syktyvkar. The company did not specify when its other acquired factory in the Kirov region would restart. That June report identified Luzales as a forestry and wood-processing business founded in 1999, covering logging, timber transport, further processing and sales of finished products. The Tikhvin factory was formerly an IKEA enterprise.
