The Arc targets
Nissan Motor announced The Arc on 25 March 2024, setting out a business programme for fiscal 2024–2026 and longer-term actions through 2030. The company targets one million additional annual vehicle sales compared with fiscal 2023. Its fiscal 2026 ends in March 2027; the programme’s model launches and profitability figures remain targets for that period.
- Thirty new models, including sixteen electrified.
- Operating margin target: more than 6%.
Earlier investment programme
The programme follows a longer electrification agenda. On 29 November 2021, Nissan presented Ambition 2030, planning investment of two trillion yen over five years and twenty-three new electrified models, including fifteen fully electric vehicles, by fiscal 2030. Its global electrification target then exceeded 50% across Nissan and INFINITI. The company also aimed to introduce a vehicle using proprietary all-solid-state batteries in fiscal 2028 and prepare a pilot facility in Yokohama as early as fiscal 2024. These were the commitments of the 2021 vision, with battery manufacturing and technology development scheduled for subsequent years.
The 2023 strategy update
Nissan revised that vision on 27 February 2023. Its programme called for twenty-seven new electrified models, including nineteen fully electric vehicles, by fiscal 2030. The projected global electrification mix increased from 50% to more than 55% across the two brands. For fiscal 2026, the company then expected electrified vehicles to account for more than 44% of its global sales mix, against 40% envisaged when the vision was announced. Nissan linked the update to changing customer needs and the business environment. It also described a connected-car strategy involving personalised services, on-demand functions and software-defined vehicles.
Financial context before the plan
The financial position preceding The Arc was reported on 8 February 2024. For April–December 2023, Nissan recorded consolidated revenue of 9.171 trillion yen, operating profit of 478.4 billion yen and a 5.2% operating margin. Net income attributable to owners of the parent was 325.4 billion yen. The company attributed improved revenue and operating profit to vehicle sales and pricing in key regions. It reduced its fiscal 2023 sales-volume forecast from 3.7 million to 3.55 million vehicles, citing temporary logistics disruption and intensified competition, while maintaining its financial outlook with updated exchange-rate assumptions.
