SEG Solar announced plans on 7 May 2026 for a second solar-module factory in Houston, Texas, with 4 GW of annual capacity. Commercial operations are expected in the third quarter of 2026. The company estimated investment above $200 million, nearly 500,000 square feet of space and up to 800 new jobs. Together with its first 2 GW factory, the project would take annual US module capacity to approximately 6 GW.
The first Texas production base
The earlier Houston plant opened on 8 August 2024, according to SEG’s announcement the following day. A first 585 W YUKON N-series module rolled off the line during the ceremony. The company described approximately $60 million in investment and nearly 250,000 square feet of space, with annual capacity of 2 GW for N-type modules. Automated manufacturing lines were compatible with 182 mm and 210 mm N-type cells. SEG also planned enterprise-resource and manufacturing-execution systems to manage operations and trace incoming materials. Its proposed Houston research centre would offer module reliability testing.
Cell manufacturing in Indonesia
SEG’s Indonesian cell factory produced its first N-type cell on 29 April 2025 in Batang, Central Java, the company reported on 16 May. Construction had begun on 30 September 2024. SEG reported a screen-printing cycle of 0.75 seconds per cell. It planned to expand annual cell capacity to 5 GW and develop manufacturing covering silicon rods, wafers, cells and modules. The announcement marked the company’s move upstream from module manufacturing into cell production.
- Four production lines in the first phase.
- Combined cell capacity of 2 GW.
- Average conversion efficiency of 26.4%, according to SEG.
Upstream expansion and company profile
On 15 December 2025, SEG announced a 3 GW ingot-and-wafer facility in Batang as the first phase of a planned 5 GW expansion. The company estimated investment of approximately $80 million, fully funded by SEG, and a site of about 50,000 square metres. Production was then scheduled for the third quarter of 2026. The project was intended to extend the manufacturing chain beyond the existing US module plant and Indonesian cell factory. SEG’s corporate profile in that release identified its Houston headquarters and module markets covering utility-scale, commercial and residential customers.
