Transmashholding reported that investment in development, new products and engineering capabilities reached RUB28.5 billion in 2024, up 35% year on year. Its February 2025 announcement identified projects including Ivolga wheelset repair at Demikhovsky, serial gas-engine generators at Kolomna, asynchronous traction motors and the Novocherkassk paint shop. The Moscow-headquartered rolling-stock manufacturer also reported work on:
- 3TE28 freight locomotives and the St Panteleimon mobile medical centre.
- T-gauge passenger coaches and double-decker Aurora coaches.
- Localization of locomotive, metro and passenger-coach components.
Locomotives entering service
A company announcement dated 23 January 2024 described acceptance of the first 3TE28 locomotives at the Tynda-Severnaya service depot. Designed by TMH Engineering and manufactured at the Bryansk plant, seven locomotives were at the depot, with five more expected. They entered service on the Baikal-Amur Mainline within a week of preparation after arriving with their diesel-generator equipment operating. The locomotives had completed trials with freight trains and measuring cars. All seven had received initial maintenance and completed the 240 operating hours needed before their next scheduled maintenance.
Product certification
In its 1 March 2024 account of the preceding year, TMH reported certification of forty-two new and serial-production products under the customs-union railway-safety regulation. New equipment included the 3TE28 locomotive, the Ivolga 4.0 electric train with an asynchronous traction drive and a speed capability of 160 km/h, and the EP2DM electric train. Certified components included updated passenger-coach bogies, a synchronous traction unit for diesel locomotives and an asynchronous motor for electric trains. The company attributed recertification of existing rolling stock to design changes replacing previously imported assemblies with domestically produced equipment.
Aurora passenger coaches
On 27 November 2024, the Tver plant announced certification of the improved 61-4492 double-decker seating coach and 68-4120 bogie. The bogie's axle load increased from eighteen to 19.5 tonnes. The planned 2024 output was twenty-five 61-4492.02 coaches: five first-class and twenty second-class vehicles, seating sixty and 104 passengers respectively. Other coach types would complete two fifteen-car Aurora formations. Each formation was designed for 1,240 passengers on the Moscow–St Petersburg route. These were November production plans.
